The Greens knew heading into the clash all they needed was a win to take fifth, but once they started to roll, it didn’t stop as they walked away with a 50-18 win.
Coach Brent Pike led from the front with four first half tries and said it was a day where you just had to roll with the momentum.
“Those sort of days don't come around too often,” he said.
“When it rolls around like that you just keep going with the flow.”
Pike felt the success his side enjoyed during the opening stages of the game where the side raced out to a 34-0 lead came from keeping it simple.
“We just said we had to play direct and basic football like we have been in the last six weeks,” he said
“It has been working for us, and we just need to keep sticking to the basics and what is working, and we have been putting sides away which is good.
“It was a very good win and to only concede 18 points in 80 minutes is a really good defensive performance heading into finals.”
It was a quick start which made all the difference as the Leeton side put on 40 unanswered points including Pike’s four tries before Yenda were able to make any impact on the scoreboard.
Yenda managed back-to-back tries, but it did little to slow the galloping Greens with Jayke Stevenson and Ben Fisher scoring to put the score out to 50-12.
The Blueheelers scored a try right on full time after a short run at the line from John Lolohea saw him find a gap to reduce the losing margin to 32 points.
Unfortunately for the Leeton side they didn’t get through the game unscathed with Morgan Wilesmith and Jaryd Pattinson forced off, but Pike said there wasn’t too much of a concern.
“He (Morgan) is alright coped a bit of a stinger,” he said.
“Just a bit of a precaution when you get a few tries up you don't want to keep anyone out there who is injured, so we took him off and let him rest for the last 15 minutes.
“Patto got a head knock, but he will be alright he is a tough character, and he will bounce back next week.”
