The poetry slam is part of the Festival Audacious Idea, taking place in Leeton from September 8 to September 18.
The brainchild of two Leeton High School girls, the theme of the evening is empowering young women.
Leeton Shire Council’s manager for library, culture and community Penny Davies gave the two girls credit for organising the event.
“The girls have really taken the lead on this. They’ve been getting out in the community and making connections,” she said.
“We’ve already had a number of inquiries,”
The idea came about when the three were working together on the Youth Frontiers Project.
The winner will be decided by a panel of independent judges and $100 in prize money is on offer, provided by Leeton Rotary Club.
To register, email rivpoetryslam@aol.com by Friday, September 8.
The poetry slam will be taking place at the Leeton Shire Library on Friday, September 15 at 6:30pm.
