Yanco-Wamoon finished on top of the table in the under 18s after a solid season across the park.
Thanks to this, they sat out the first week of the finals before going down to their grand final opponents in the Griffith Black and Whites in the second week, 38-34.
Last weekend they secured the final spot in the big dance with an impressive 40-18 victory over the Yenda Blueheelers in the preliminary final.
Co-coach Matt Coelli said his side knew what the job at hand was ahead of Sunday.
“They’ve been a good team all year … they are a very good defensive side,” he said.
“I’d say it’s definitely going to be a very physical game on the weekend, but the boys are ready.
“We’ll need to make sure we’re completing our sets … the completion rate will be very important.”
The under 18s did set the goal at the start of the season to make the grand final and, with that now achieved, the next obvious step is to secure the premiership.
Coelli said in order to achieve that it would require a team effort, but he said the likes of Daniel Mihaere and Gerard Au-Nau would need to lead the way.
“Gerard has been our go-to man all season,” Coelli said.
“He and Daniel are very good players, so we’ll be wanting them to have a good match.”
Both have also played first grade football this year, so Coelli knew they would be up to the challenge.
Many of the under 18s were part of last year’s under 16s grand final, which although they lost, they will have gained experience from the match.
The Black and Whites and the Hawks have been the two teams to beat all season and Coelli was confident heading in. “We have to be hungry and want it … I’ve got full faith in the boys,” he said.
