This was the first time the club has run their championships over a weekend and it proved to be a great success.
In Womens C Grade things didn’t go quite to script with top seed Sarah McAliece being defeated in the second round by third seed Naomi Rawle who showed some spirit in her win and secured her spot in the championship final.
Second seed Dakota Boardman had more comfortable wins on her way to the final winning both her matches 3-0.
Boardman proved too strong in the end with a four-set win over Rawle to take the C Grade Championship 11-8 11-4 16-18 12-10.
In Men’s C Grade top seed Declan Ryan was unlucky to come up against fourth seed Blayne Thompson whose recent form proved too good putting him into the final.
Second seed Anthony Iannelli had a slightly easier run into the final with defeats over Callum Ryan and Mason Boardman.
In the final, it was fourth seed Thompson who proved untouchable defeating Iannelli in three sets lasting only 12 minutes.
Women’s B Grade Round Robin saw the top two seeds in Kira Brettschneider and Emily Jennings take the court in the first round with the knowledge that they could possibly be playing again in the championship final.
And that is how the story read but this time after a first round defeat, Jennings reversed the results and defeated Brettschneider in a gruelling five setter 8-11 11-8 9-11 11-8 11-8.
Men’s B Grade ran as scripted with the top two seeds taking the court in the final.
Top seed Jackson Goman and Scott Quinlivan played out a lengthy five set match with many ebbs and flows.
After a couple of match points against him Goman proved the eventual winner over Quinlivan in five sets.
It was a fairytale ending in the Women’s A Grade Championships for Sarah Quinlivan who took out her third consecutive club championship defeating Marcelle Steele.
Even a bout of the flu couldn’t stand in the way of her victory defeating Steele 11-7 11-2 11-9.
In the Men’s A Grade Championship it was smooth sailing for No. 2 seed Jacob Harrsion after top seed Jack Quinlivan was knocked out in the first round after suffering bout of the flu.
Wins by brother Macauley Harrison over Col Thompson and Danny Boardman booked him a birth in the A Grade final against brother Jacob.
In an entertaining match with endless long rallies it was older brother Jacob who was the eventual winner defeating Macauley in four sets and taking his seventh title.
