Mrs Fitzsimon came to Leeton when she was just one-month old and has lived a life full of many achievements in the town ever since then.
“I was born in Dandenong, Victoria, but my family returned to Leeton when I was one-month old,” Mrs Fitzsimon said.
“I attended St Josephs Primary School and then St Francis College.”
While growing up, Mrs Fitzsimon never had one occupation in mind, but knew it would be something involving numbers and figures.
She said her childhood was spent enjoying life.
“I played nearly every sport going, so with training etc there wasn't much spare time,” Mrs Fitzsimon said.
“I started golf when I was 15, which meant from then on any spare moment was at the golf course. I still love golf and can't wait to get back into this competitively.”
Upon finishing school, Mrs Fitzsimon went to TAFE for a year before working in the banking industry for 18 years.
She currently works at Yanco Agricultural High School where has been for nine years and described as an “awesome” workplace.
Over the years she has been involved with many community organisations and events, including the Leeton Jockey Club, where her husband Grant is the current president, various cancer fundraising groups in the shire, as well as being on two SunRice ambassador quest committees.
“I have a very keen interest in any local cancer groups as this is very close to me with a strong history with my mum and sister both being survivors of breast cancer,” Mrs Fitzsimon said.
All three of Mrs Fitzsimon’s children currently live in Leeton and she said the town had been a wonderful place to raise a family. Mr Fitzsimon was also born and bred in Leeton.
“I think Leeton is the perfect town to raise kids,” she said. “We have so much to offer. I consider the sporting facilities we have as second-to-none and we have it all in our town circle.
“It's also nice when you see your kids growing up and then also becoming friends with the kids of your friends and acquaintances.”
