After winning the toss and electing to bat Narrandera were quickly on the back foot after getting three runs on the board, they lost their first wicket in the fourth over with Elwin clean bowling Ryan Argus (1).
Carpheads’ captain Brent Lawrence didn’t fare much better as Elwin continued to hit a line and length which troubled the Narrandera batsmen.
Jono Doyle (7) and Jacob Anderson (7) tried to restore some restore some stability, but when Doyle fell to the bowling of Adrian Axtill (3/8), and Anderson became Elwin’s third victim, it appeared Narrandera would not be able to break out if their collapse.
Rohan Rehwinkel and Anthony Craig were the only other batsman to make a slight impact on the scoreboard as the side were eventually bowled out for a 31 inside 17 overs.
Elwin was the chief destroyer picking up figures of 6/18 off his eight overs while Axtill was also able to pitch in with three wickets while only going for eight runs off his eight overs.
Small targets can at times be stubbing points, but the opening combination of Steve Campbell and Rhett McGregor worked hard to ensure there would be no such issue for the Ferrets.
Campbell finished not out on 13 while McGregor hit an almost run a ball 16 to see L&D pass the total with 10 wickets in hand and 33 overs remaining.
Elwin’s haul of wickets moves him to the top of the wicket-takers category for A grade with seven wickets two wickets in front of Narrandera’s Rohan Rehwinkel and Yanco Cricket Club’s Hugh Collins and Jameson Booth while it is the third five-wicket haul this season already.
The win sees the Ferrets go to the top of the A grade table to be one point ahead of the Yanco Cricket Club after the first three games of the season.
The Ferrets will now head into the bye this weekend with confidence while Narrandera will look to rebuild with their first home game of the season when they take on The Phantoms at Narrandera Park.
