Being the wife of Deputy Mayor George Weston, she supports him in his position in the council as well as with their company Weston and Weston, and often drives to Canberra to take or pick up urgent parts for our mechanics.
“I consider myself George’s personal assistant, and I also look after our smaller grandchildren which I love to do.”
The Westons have two children, five grandsons and one granddaughter, and Mrs Weston says they are all “blessed as they all live in this beautiful town.”
Born in Paddington, Sydney, Mrs Weston says there is nothing like returning home to Leeton.
“I enjoy a weekend in Sydney to see family, my siblings and catch up with friends and just enjoy the vibe, but I love returning home to Leeton, it is a wonderful environment to raise children and it is so caring, friendly and diverse.”
Mrs Weston got the taste for country life from her Uncle and Aunty, who lived in Wagga Wagga on a small cattle stud.
“When we were selected to move our weekend business (Weston and Weston by the Murrumbidgee County Council to Leeton, we jumped at the opportunity and moved on June 3 in 1978.”
It’s a decision they have never regretted, and have been welcomed into the community and especially into the Rotary Clubs, and do their best to give back.
“I am a member of the community group Light Up Leeton and a driver for Meals on Wheels, and I also get involved with Australia Day celebrations.”
She says nothing compares to the way people pitch in to get a project or an event happening and it’s amazing to see the effort behind the scenes.
“I love the little things like taking the grand kids to Mountford park and you can always meet a visitor or someone new to town or a resident with their children or grandchildren.”
“These things don’t happen so readily in big cities as everyone keeps to themselves, everybody is busy just living.”
