In doing some preparation of their own, Leeton Shire Council have announced nominations for the 2018 Australia Day ceremony are now open and the community is encouraged to nominate residents they feel are worthy.
The awards aim to “identify those unsung heroes in our midst so that the Shire can express formal gratitude for the very important place they hold in our Community”.
Leeton’s Australia Day Committee Chairman and Deputy Mayor George Weston believes the shire is full of worthy recipients.
“It just takes one person to complete the nomination form, it’s an easy form and it won’t take very long at all”, said Mr Weston.
Residents can nominate others by filling out a form.
Forms are available from Leeton Shire Council, its website, the Leeton Library, visitor information centre, Yanco Shop, Murrami Post Office and Whitton Post Office
“We all know someone who goes above and beyond for their community, group or organisation and so this is the perfect opportunity to recognise those individuals amongst us.”

Deputy Mayor Weston says Australia day is a great chance to pay tribute to those who go above and beyond for their community.
“There are also those who display determination and dedication, excelling in their chosen area. These individuals, groups or organisations, which you probably are aware of, are worthy to receive a vote of thanks,” he said.
“Australia Day is a great opportunity to value the successes in our community”.
Nominations close on Friday, December 15 2017.
