The town's community Christmas lunch at St Peter’s hall is busily being planned by a group of hard-working volunteers who aim to provide a place for residents of all ages to go and enjoy the day together.
Schools and businesses throughout the shire have been pitching in to ensure costs are kept down, with community members also donating gifts for the town’s nursing home residents.
Presents are also being accepted at the Golden Apple Super Store’s Christmas tree for the Forever Johnno Foundation, which are then donated to sick children in hospital.
Organiser Fran Artese was blown away by the support.
“Every year people really get behind us … there’s already a lot of people who have said they are coming to the lunch,” she said.
“We invite everyone to attend. It’s for the whole community.”
The lunch itself promises to be a feast for all who attend.
Those who take part can look forward to sharing the festive spirit with those around them.
Over the years many residents and their families have taken to the idea and now attend each Christmas Day and use it as their celebration.
Volunteer Lyn Middleton said the whole idea was to provide somewhere for people of all walks of life to be on Christmas lunch.
“It’s for everyone, it doesn’t matter if you come on your own or in a group of friends or family members,” she said.
“It’s started to become very popular.”
St Joseph’s Primary School has again gotten behind the event, selling tickets for a major raffle.
The money will also be used to purchase gifts for those in nursing homes in the area to ensure they don’t miss out this Christmas.
Bookings are required by December 15 and forms can be found at the Leeton Community Op Shop or St Vincent De Paul.
The event will get underway at 11.30am on Christmas Day, with lunch to be served at noon.
