There were great rallies and aerial spiking displays and the spectators enjoyed every minute of it.
The experienced Locals, who only dropped three sets throughout the entire competition, got off to a flying start, with dominant serving and smart court play by Solomon Folosaitu and Victoria Ta’avao.
Diggas couldn’t find form early enough to get back into the set, going down 25-9.
Diggas started the second set well and it was Robbie Gifford and Cath Gray that set the mark, improving their serving and setting up Mitch Cross and Kim Weller at the net.
But with Faalega Soli setting up Tauvela Vetemotu and Paul Ta’avao in better positions, Locals were too strong in spiking and finishing off the points, winning the close set 25-19.
The third set was much the same, with lots of long rallies. Better serving and team play by Sally Cassilles and Allen Rodrigues, again saw the Diggas out to three-point lead half way through, but it was the spiking by Faasolo Seve and Ta’avao that were the difference for the locals, pulling away to a 25-15 win and the match 3-0.
Thank you to Lorraine Kefford, Sean Ryan, Louise Johnstone, Nyree Dunn, Declan Ryan and all players.
