After the Ferrets won the toss and elected to bat, they would have looked to make an instant impact on the scoreboard. However, it didn’t work quite the way they would have anticipated.
The loss of Reece Maguire (1) to the bowling of Mark Tilyard (1/28) followed in quick succession by the loss of Daniel Muir (0) and Steve Campbell (14) both who fell to the bowling of Rohan Rehwinkel (2/22) to have L&D at 3/15 after 7.5 overs.
The problems continued for the Ferrets as Cooper Irons picked up the wicket of Justin Kelly (4) and Maclean Crompton (0) with Adrian Axtill and Richard Smith having to rebuild with their side struggling on 5/29 after 15.4 overs.
The pair had success with a 28-run stand which got their side past 50 before Narrandera captain Brent Lawrence (1/22) struck to remove Axtill (27).
Fortunately for L&D, Smith and Ben Elwin kept the runs ticking over with a 54-run partnership before Irons picked up his third of the day with Sam Alampi (2) following close behind when he was run out by James Sullivan.
The Ferrets finished the allotted 40 overs with a total of 8/116 thanks to an unbeaten 35 from Smith.
The Carpheads made a slow start in reply losing the dangerous Jonathon Doyle (0) in the third over after he was caught behind off the bowling of Ben Elwin.
With the score on 21, Sulivan was the next to be sent packing after he was caught by Kelly off the bowling of Muir (1/22).
The fall of Sulivan brought Lawrence to the crease and when his side needed a captain’s knock, he duly provided.
In a 50-run partnership, Lawrence and Ryan Argus got the side into a match-winning position before Argus was dismissed by Maguire (1/27).
The loss of Jacob Anderson (2) and Rohan Renwinkel (7), both to the bowling of Campbell (2/22) threatened to derail the Carpheads chances.
Sam Argus (13*) had other ideas and in a 26-run partnership with Lawrence (41*) they were able to guide their side to a five-wicket win with three overs remaining.
