THE Area 5 Jamboree held at Narrandera on October 20 has been hailed a success.
The event attracted nearly 80 riders aged between five and 24 from across the competing zones that make up Area 5.
A number of riders from Leeton took part. Leeton Pony Club is part of Zone 21, which had the hosting rights for the jamboree in 2012.
Zone 21 also features Narrandera, Griffith, Rankins Springs, Hillston and Coleambally.
Leeton club member Christine O'Connell said it had been a fantastic competition.
"It was great weather and everyone had a great time," she said.
"There were a couple of scratchings, but nothing that was too dramatic.
"The higher age groups, they were battled out quite seriously. The competition was really close."
Events featured at the jamboree are show jumping, dressage, sporting events and equitation, which is a combination of showjumping and dressage with riders and horses having to maintain correct positions.
Young rider Bonnie Eason was awarded the highest show jumping score and those riders attempting to qualify for state dressage were successful. Pat Hume, from Griffith Pony Club, designed the course.
"It was very difficult actually, especially the equitation course," O'Connell said.
"He did a brilliant job. It was not what they normally have."
