Leeton Centrelink manager Angela Franco has received an Australia Day outstanding community service and achievement award for her role both in the workplace and the wider community.
She was one of 20 employees across the country to be given the honour from a possible 36,000 staff that make up the Department of Human Services.
"I do tend to shy away from recognition and awards, so this was a shock," Ms Franco said.
"It is based on a lot of the community work we do, but also our role in the office.
"We are nominated by our peers ... it's a pretty big honour.
"I just love being involved in the community and working with other like-minded people in Leeton and around the region for the benefit of the town.
"I can still remember feeling so lucky when I was first given a job with the federal public service in Leeton 21 years ago."
Ms Franco is the current chairwoman of GetSet and is involved with the Leeton Youth Committee, Rotary's peace community project, the Bidgee Binge program and JumpStart.
NSW Senator Ursula Stephens congratulated Ms Franco on the award.
"Overall, her ability to bring different community groups together and pitch in no matter what the situation or issue, makes her such an excellent community leader, and it's fantastic that she's received the recognition," she said.
Ms Franco is yet to receive the plaque for her efforts, but will do so in the near future.
