ALTHOUGH the temperature was a bit chilly, it was the gardens that shone on Easter Monday.

The Leeton Water Wheel Garden Club held its annual open day as part of the SunRice Festival on Monday with seven gardens on display.
Each garden had its own style and were on show at the homes of John and Sally Hill, Peter and Jenny Davidson, Bev Newham, Doug and Neva Jennings, Tony and Sue Ciavarella, Greg and Wendy Horton and Alan and Lynne Brink.
Each garden had more than 80 visitors take a look on the day, with the Leeton Visitor Information Centre's garden providing the location for afternoon tea.
Club president Joy Young said the day went off well.
"I think we probably will have raised a bit more than last year judging by the people who came through," she said.
"We'll give a donation to the Leeton Town Band for playing at the visitor information centre and we always give a donation to Can Assist.
"We usually give money to three charities, so we will work that out shortly."
The garden club was established in 2003 and has many aims, including generating interest and involvement in gardening in Leeton shire, advising and supporting new and established gardeners, participating in specific community projects and providing opportunities to discuss and share information regarding gardening problems.
Ms Young said there had many favourable comments.
"I've had a lot of people say they'd like to go back to Sally Hill's garden in the future because it is quite a new garden, so they'd like to see it down the track," she said.
