Many of the major crime categories for the shire are down, with only small spikes in other areas.
In the 12 months to March this year there had been six sexual assaults and 15 indecent assaults, act of indecency or other sexual offences.
This compares to 12 and 13 in the respective categories in the 12 months to March 2013.
Break and enters were also down, with 62 reported incidents in the last year compared to 73 for the same period 12 months ago.
The trend was reflected across the region over the 24-month period, according to Griffith Local Area Command crime manager Paul Smith.
"Overall the crime statistics are positive, (but) we need to work with community across our six local government areas to continue in efforts to drive crime down," Inspector Smith said.
"Stealing from motor vehicles have been an issue for some time across all our local government areas.
"This has become an easy crime target for criminals netting valuables with little effort or risk.
"You can assist by simply removing those valuables from vehicle and in doing so removing the temptation and or reward for the criminal."
In the past 12 months there have been 56 incidents where a Leeton shire resident had property stolen from a motor vehicle, compared to 58 in the previous year.
There was also 23 recorded vehicle thefts.
The category to record the highest amount of criminal activity was malicious damage to property, with 160 incidents in the last 12 months and 158 for the same period 12 months ago.
As was recently reported in The Irrigator the number of assault and domestic violence cases has been a concern for police in Leeton shire.
Domestic violence-related assault figures came in at 52 and assaults at 75.
"Domestic violence has been a major focus of the NSW Police Force for many years now and the increase in these incidents, although disturbing, does suggest victims are more willing to report this crime," Inspector Smith said.
"This is a whole of community issue and we need to continue to work together on addressing the crime and the impact on the wider community."
There was also an increase in domestic violence offences and assaults throughout the state.
