An official ceremony marking the anniversary of the nation was held in Mountford Park, with Alma Herrmann named the 2015 citizen of the year and Emma Reneker the young citizen of the year.
"I'm in shock ... it's very humbling to be given this award," Mrs Herrmann said.
"I can tell you that what I get out of being involved in so many community groups is a lot more than what I put in."
Mrs Herrmann is part of various organisations, including St Peter's Anglican Church, Murrami CWA, Light Up Leeton and Inner Wheel.
Miss Reneker had a busy 2014 after she was named the SunRice Ambassador in April, but has continued on with her community work since then.
"I want to thank whoever nominated me ... it's really nice to have that recognition," she said.
"Happy Australia Day everyone."
Lifelong citizen of the year honours went to Enid Tuckett, who was surprised by the honour.
"It's not something I expected, but I'm, very grateful," she said.
"I'm very proud to be Australian and I love living in Leeton.
"It's a real honour."
This year the committee tasked with judging the nominations decided to split the event and organisation of the year into three sections.
The Butler family of Chris, Cheryl, Bryce and Dayne was honoured with the event of the year title for their massed head shave fund-raising efforts for cancer, while the Leeton High School open boys rugby league team was honoured with the group of the year title and Narrandera/Leeton Community Transport recognised as the organisation of the year.
Mr Butler said his family wouldn't have been able to what it did without the support of the town.
"We had 54 people shave their heads, so that gives you an idea," he said.
"We know this money has been able to support people in our town with cancer."
Jack Quinlivan was named the 2015 young achiever of the year, while Tereapii Nikoro was announced as the achiever of the year.
