Each year the church hosts a pancake supper for the occasion, which also includes the annual pancake relay.
Father Robert Murphy said there while the event aimed at fun and bringing the community together, there was a serious side.
“Shrove Tuesday is the day of feasting before the fast on Ash Wednesday,” he said.
“In the ‘old day’s everyone would use their milk, eggs and flour and that’s where the idea of ‘pancake Tuesday’ has come from.”
Fr Robert encouraged residents to attend, enjoy a pancake or two and participate in the relay.
“The relay is for young and old in teams of four,” he said. “There’s event a trophy.”
The Shrove Tuesday event will be held at the St Peter’s Hall on February 9 at 7.30pm.
