The Barellan Masters Games are set to return early next year after the event failed to go ahead in 2016 when the organising committee decided to take a break and “rejuvenate”.
Despite the festive season possibly contributing to some over-eating and drinking, Leeton shire residents have been encouraged to start thinking what sport they will enter. Committee publicity officer Carl Chirgwin said since its inception, the event had put $50,000 back into the Barellan community through various projects.
”We thought we needed an annual event that brought people into the town that would not only encourage people to participate, but also come together,” he said.
“We also needed to inject some funds into some of the infrastructure around the town. It was also a good opportunity to show off our little town.”
Ten sports will make up the program, which will be held from February 24 to 26. Register at www.barellanmastersgames.com.au.
