Staff members at Starfish Florist were already rushed off their feet on Monday as they prepared for their biggest day of the year. Preparations begin weeks in advance, according to staff member Diana Dissegna.
“We start the preparations about two weeks in advance in terms of hampers and chocolate bouquets. Then we drive to Melbourne four days beforehand to pick up our roses,” she said. “We bring them back and start preparing them.”
Ms Dissegna said Valentine’s Day had grown recently.
“The young ones really seem to get into it,” she said.
“Some older couples celebrate it, especially if it’s their anniversary. In my day it was more an American thing.” It’s not just roses that are popular in showing affection, with flowers of all varieties flying off the shelves this year.
