People from a wide variety of backgrounds filled the Leeton Multi-Purpose Centre to share their culture and learn about others.
As the community welcomes immigrants and migrants, the celebration embodied Leeton’s core values.
Migrants and immigrants who chose to live in Leeton work to contribute to the society.
Actively striving to participate and give back to the community they have chosen to call home.
Offering a warm welcome and helping people new to the community is a task that Susie Rowe is quite passionate about.
Mrs Rowe has worked with a number of organizations and committees over the years that introduce individuals new to the area with the community.
“I think we have a really unique opportunity and a unique community here in Leeton,” Mrs Rowe said of the Harmony Day celebration.
“I think Australia should honour Harmony Day as much as Christmas.
“I feel that in this climate that we’re living in globally that we should make a big day of Harmony Day.
“It’s the one event where we celebrate our multiculturalism.”
The shared hope is forging a stronger bond within society by celebrating the differences within.
