The highly-popular event once again lived up to its reputation as one of the largest social sporting activities in the area, with over 5000 rounds of golf completed.
The 2016-17 championship winners were the Munchausens after they defeated Swig N Swing 185-190 in the division one final. Captain Bo Jarema was full of praise for his outfit as they committed 100 per cent to the 22 round season.
Star players for Munchausens were Barrie Sangster, Col Tuckett and Shane Dryburgh, while Travis Doyle and Simon Watson tried hard for the runner-ups. Munchausens player Vince Campisi took out the most rounds played with 57 twilight nine-hole games completed.
Division two was a close contest with the Superwash Mates playing Murrami Magic. Dick Nolen’s Superwash Mates snuck through for a two-stroke win over the Magic who only had six starters. Final scores were 186-188. All players from the winning team chipped in with good solid even par figures. John Wynn tried hard to no avail for the runner-ups.
Division three had Dirty Sanchez take on Men at Work with Rob Hillier’s squad taking out the final by seven strokes 182-189. Dirty Sanchez stood tall in the final with the best five player total in the afternoon a two over par 182. Wayne Gordon, Peter Taylor and Hillier did all the damage with nett 34s. Men at Work’s Luke Matthews and Bruce Harrison both broke their handicaps, but 40 and 41 nett counted for the fourth and fifth card.
Division four had the Unquenchables take on Crunch in a much-anticipated final. Mick Meline was a stand out in this final with lowest round of the day a nett 30 setting his team up for victory and the division four title. Dave Warburton played solid and Andrew Mannall was brilliant in the morning round. For Crunch, Brian Quinn played great early as did Anthony Boots.
The player of the year award went to Mark Lehman, who had the lowest average this season. His average of 35.76 was just ahead of Josh Helson on 35.96 and Shane Whelan 36.06.
The most improved player was Jarryd Pattison of the Nob Trains.
