After a tight first half in the Tumut game, the Leeton side was able to really assert dominance in the second stanza and ran away to a 36-10 victory.

Captain Bill Bevan put the success down to the influence the imported players had on the game and their fitness played a significant role in the game.

“It was probably the fitness and the Fijian influx we've got,” he said.

“We spread it wide and were able to run around them.

“When ran through them a bit too, when they got a tired gaps opened up.”

Wagga Ag won their first round game against Griffith Blacks in a nail-biting game.

There were little between the two sides and despite Griffith leading into half time the Wagga side were able to secure the 28-24 victory.

The Phantoms used the break over Easter to get themselves as prepared as possible to take Wagga with club president Bart Challcombe a bit surprised by the round one result.

“I thought Griffith might have got up over Ag College," he said.

Second grade will also be looking to continue their good start to the season after they convincingly saw off Tumut 59-7.
