As it turns out, one would be wrong for that thinking.
Leeton’s Fivebough and Tuckerbil Wetlands are a hidden treasure in the shire.
Not only do they provide the perfect backdrop for a stroll through nature or the opportunity to view some magnificent birds and wildlife, the scenery is second to none.
Since the 2012 floods, the wetlands have received a makeover from Crown Lands.
Last year’s heavy rainfall has also ensured there is plenty of water to be seen and photographed.
Leeton Shire Council communications and marketing co-ordinator Brent Lawrence described the wetlands as a hidden gem residents needed to check out.
The wetlands are also internationally recognised by Ramsar.
“It’s not everyday you get to check out something that is internationally recognised in your own backyard,” Mr Lawrence said.
“Like anything, when you live in a community, sometimes you do forget about all the wonderful things we have here.
“I would definitely encourage residents to go out to the wetlands, take their visiting friends and family out there and spread the word.
“It’s peaceful and there’s plenty to do there.” The wetlands are also a bird watcher’s paradise, with many look outs available to do just that.
There’s even opportunities to have a picnic and, of course, master that selfie for social media posts. Mr Lawrence also listed the Henry Lawson Cottage and Gogeldrie Weir as other jewels in Leeton’s crown that residents should take the time to discover.
