Leeton High School hosted the Western Riverina Careers Expo on Wednesday with hundreds of students turning out to sample a taste of what may be on offer for their future.
Students were able to interact with stallholders from a variety of universities, training organisations, the NSW Police Force, Australian Defence Force, TAFE NSW and many more.
As well as getting to ask many of the burning questions about their future careers, students were able to get hands on at some of the displays.
Popular among many was the Australian Defence Force stands that offered a unique insight into careers in that field.
Leeton High School year 12 student Vanessa Hyde would like to study law and said the expo had been a valuable tool for her in choosing a career path.
With LHS hosting the expo for many years, Vanessa has been able to attend and get an idea of what the future holds since she was in year 10.
“I’ve found you get to ask a lot of questions and it’s good because it’s face-to-face,” she said.
“It really does help.
“I want to study at ANU in Canberra … that would be great.”
The expo isn’t just focused on following a tertiary path, with many options available to explore apprenticeships and traineeships, distance study and more.
Expo co-ordinator Tania Speer was pleased with the amount of knowledge on offer.
“It’s a friendly environment where students can gather plenty of valuable information right from the horse’s mouth,” she said.
“This year we’ve spaced it a lot better so we only ever have 250 to 300 students here at the same time.
“It’s been great to see so many of them get involved with the day.
“Logistically it’s too hard to plan trips to some of these universities and the like.
“This way it’s all in one place, so it’s really good for students to have access to it in this manner.”
This year there were 14 new exhibitors taking part in the event, with students from 23 schools across the region taking part.
