The Wagga Football Competition is coming off the bye round following the long weekend, with teams using the break to refresh.
Leeton is currently sitting on top of the first grade ladder by goal difference and will aim to hang onto that lucrative spot against Wagga United on Sunday.
To be played on Leeton’s home turf, the game also marks the start of the second round.
Leeton defeated Wagga in their first match up earlier this season and senior player Scott Munro was hoping for the same result on Sunday.
“I think we all enjoyed the weekend off to freshen up for the second half of the season,” he said.
“It was a good opportunity to rest those niggling injuries some of the boys have been carrying.
“We trained lightly last week with a bit of fun and games thrown in.
“Back into it this week with a lot of fitness and working on ironing out a few issues in our game.”
Munro was expecting United to have improved following their first encounter.
“It'll be a challenge,” he said.
“They had a big win against Junee before the break so that'll give them some confidence heading into round two.
“They'll be looking to keep in touch with the mid-table teams and then push for a finals spot towards the end of the season.”
With United now having a target on its back as being one of the sides to beat in the competition, Munro said that only made the team want to win even more.
With the hard work being put in at training, this should hold the side in good stead come Sunday.
“We need to take our chances and put the opposition away early like we've done over the past month,” Munro said.
“We've scored 29 goals in our last four matches, so hopefully that continues.
“We'll also need to tighten up in defence, we've been a little bit patchy in that area recently.”
The game will get underway at the Mia Club ground from 3pm.
