The 17-year-old was travelling north on Stringer Road in a white Corolla about 9am on Friday when the accident occurred. Griffith Local Area Command Inspector Nick Seddon said the vehicle lost control near the intersection of Corbie Hill Road and Stringer Road.
“The vehicle has gone into an irrigation channel, which didn’t have water in it at the time,” he said. “It has also impacted with a built up driveway.” As a result the woman broke both her legs and lacerations to her face.
Police, the Rural Fire Service, paramedics and the Leeton Volunteer Rescue Association attended the scene where they helped remove the young woman from the vehicle. She was taken to Yanco Sportsground and then airlifted to Canberra Hospital for surgery.
