Leeton Shire Council recently held a citizenship ceremony at its chambers to formally recognise the two new residents.
Najibullah Rezaie, formally of Afghanistan, and Kolinio Waqanivalu, originally from Fiji, took part in the ceremony and now find themselves among Australia’s newest citizens.
Mayor Paul Maytom was in attendance at the event and was pleased to officially welcome the pair to Leeton. He was hopeful they would stay in the shire for many years to come and build a life here.
The ceremony is the final step in the journey for those wanting to become an Australian citizen. It also allows others present the opportunity to affirm their loyalty to Australia in a similar way to the new citizens.
