Cadet Karamveer,13, from the 223 Army Cadet Unit joined this year and attended his first Annual Field Exercise (AFX) at Singleton with more than 1300 other Cadets during the recent school holidays.
He said he’s different to other cadets as he wears a turban as part of his religious observance and ties it on his head pretty tight to stop his hats from falling off.
“The other cadets respect me for my different religion and I don’t have any problems,” CDT Karamveer said.
“I’m in year 7 at St Francis College.
“When I was a little kid I used to see people in the Reserves or Army Cadets on Anzac Day.
“This year I participated for the first time as a cadet.”
Commander of the NSW Cadet Brigade, Colonel Brendan Casey said during the September exercise the cadets learned how to erect combat shelters, shoot Army weapons on an indoor computer range and fieldcraft during their week away in uniform.
“The NSW Army Cadets Brigade’s AFX was in Singleton this year and this really brought the Army back to Cadets,” Colonel Casey said.
