Last Monday, St Joseph’s Primary School honoured just that, throwing open their doors to celebrate grandparents day.
Grandparents were invited into classrooms where they took part in a range of activities with their grandchildren.
School principal MaryJane Simms said the day was all about valuing each other.
“By holding Grandparents Day, we have two aims. Firstly it is an opportunity for the children to show their grandparents how much they value them,” she said.
“Grandparents day also helps our students to become aware more of their grandparents’ strengths and wisdom.”

They took like to create art, interview each other and spend time together.
Following time in the classrooms, families enjoyed a shared lunch together.
Among the visitors were Graeme and Lyn Urquhart, invited by their grandson.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with my grandson Max in his school on Grandparents Day. Well done St Joseph's,” Mr Urquhart said.
