Tributes have flowed from former industry colleagues and community members alike following the recent death of Peter ‘Bud’ Morris, a stalwart of the Leeton community.

An active member of the Leeton community, Mr Morris was a life member of the Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA), State Emergency Service (SES) and involved with Scouts for many years.
Mr Morris is survived by wife Sue and a loving family.
A longtime member of the SES, Mr Morris served as Leeton Unit Controller for over 20 years.
Acting Controller for Murrumbidgee Region John Gregory said Mr Morris was highly regarded as both great friend and for his exemplary service.
“Peter was held in extremely high regard by the NSW SES. He was a regarded as an expert for flooding and flood planning in the local area,” he said.
“He’s left big shoes to fill.”
Mr Morris’ love for Leeton’s community spirit was on full display when he spoke to the Irrigator in 2006.
“We’re so far away from the city,” he said.
“We all pitch in and help each other, it’s part of living in a small town.”
In addition to his community service, Mr Morris had a reputation as a respected citrus grower, the local farm having been in the family for generations.
In a social media post, a family member thanked the town for its support.
“I just wanted to say on behalf of the Morris family. We thank-you for your love and support over the last few days. This tragic event has deeply struck us all. Bud will always be in our hearts…”
