Leeton Touch Association's 2017 men's and women's grand finals are played out

TOP displays of talent were on show earlier this week when the town’s touch grand finals were held.

The Leeton Touch Association 2017 summer competition for men’s and women’s officially drew to a close at the town ovals with the playing of the grand finals on Monday night.

Kicking off the night of action was the men’s B grade final, where two Yanco Ag year 10 teams went head-to-head.

While a competitive first half was played, team one proved too strong for team two, getting away with a 10-6 win.

The women’s B Grade final had Serial Taggers take on YAHS year 10.

Serial Taggers managed a few quick tries in the first half, making YAHS year 10 work hard in defence.

YAHS year 10 made breakaway attempts after half-time, but Serial Taggers’ speed and endurance got the better of them and allowed for a 10-nil win.

The long-standing Soldiers Club came up against Westpac for the Women’s A grade final.

Tiah secured a runaway try for Soldiers Club early in the first half, with Anna scoring for Westpac soon after.

Both McDonell sisters put their bodies on the line with their signature try dives, putting Soldiers Club well in the lead and ensuring a strong 9-3 finish.

The final game for the night was the fast and furious men’s A grade final, which was played under lights and had the experienced Wade Wombats up against the younger Boyo’s.

A tight defensive first half had the half-time score at 3-2.

After a dummy from the tap off, Jayke Stevenson managed to score in the corner for Wade, with Boyo’s following with two quick tries by Tye.

The game continued on with its break-neck speed and all players were leaving nothing in the tank to try and get their side over the line.

With the teams neck-and-neck, Wade were relieved to bag two more tries just before time and come away with a 6-4 final score. It was a top game for all to watch.

The Leeton touch committee would like to thank all of the players, referees and spectators for their support throughout the season and look forward to seeing everyone back on the field in the new year.
