Through the Target and UnitingCare annual Christmas appeal, residents have been able to purchase a $1 bauble at the town’s store with the knowledge they are helping someone needing assistance this year.
The money raised goes towards helping women and children fleeing domestic violence, people seeking emergency relief or children and families in desperate situations.
Target Leeton is country the second highest store in its region when it comes to selling the baubles, which is completely up to a shopper as to whether or not they would like to purchase one.
Leeton’s UnitingCare co-ordinator Priscilla Hester said 2017 had been a tough year for families facing issues of unemployment and increased living costs.
“We realy do rely on the generous people in our community to dig deep, show compassion and support our appeal this Christmas,” she said.
In 2016 the appeal raised over $1.2 million across the country and helped support over 45,000 Australian families.
Shoppers are encouraged to donate by purchasing one of the $1 baubles at the checkout.
All proceeds will be donated back to UnitingCare.
