On a deck which had a bit in it early, Leeton captain Nathan Carn knew getting early wicket would crucial to give his side the edge.
“It was a good toss to win the deck was a bit wet this morning so to send them in,” he said.
“The goal was to get three wickets in the opening session and to come back with five that was what we wanted.”
The Wolves were able to take quick wickets as Josh Carn (2/13), and Daniel Muir (3/13) made the most of the early conditions as Griffith were struggling at 5/20 with their big performers in captain Haydn Pascoe (4) and Dean Bennett (2) back in the pavilion without troubling the scorers.
Reece Matheson (15) and Lucas Conlan (29) were able to offer some resistance before Matheson, and Charlie Cunial (1) fell victim to the quick bowling of Jameson Booth (2/26) to leave the home side at 7/42.
Conlan stuck around with Marc Tucker, but when Tucker (18) was caught at slip by Steve Weckert off the bowling of Brent Lawrence (2/10), and Hugh Collins (1/5) picked up Conlan (29) in successive deliveries it spelt the end for Griffith as they were bowled out for 96 inside 32 overs.
Nathan Tang and Matt Dedini were able to put the Wolves in the driver's seat with an opening partnership of 40 before the breakthrough was finally made in 20th over when Tang (30) was stumped off the bowling of Bennett.
Leeton had time on their side as Jarred Lane, and Dedini (15) came together and got the side to 59 before both fell as Bennett (2/29) claimed his second of the game while Lane (11) was dismissed by Dom Brown (1/16).
The wickets only quickened the scoring up for the Wolves as Daniel Muir came out looking to get the game finished quickly.
“He picks up the ball really well, and he is a very clean hitter and to have someone like that coming in at five or six is really good,” Carn said.
Muir (27*) and Lawrence (12*) guided Leeton to a comfortable seven-wicket win and will take on Yass next weekend.
