The average price for unleaded fuel in Leeton on Monday was hovering around the $1.31 to $1.33, a figure NRMA spokesman Peter Khoury was pleased with.
“Leeton’s prices are currently among some of the best in regional NSW,” he said.
“The old myth about petrol prices being more expensive in rural and regional areas because of the time it takes to transport the fuel to those places is completely untrue.
“It’s good we’re seeing more competition in regional areas.
“We’re seeing more of that because people are able to shop around more now for those cheaper prices.
“There’s also more independent service stations opening in these areas.”
Head 40 minutes down the road to Griffith and prices are higher than Leeton, with the average price hovering between $1.38 and $1.40.
In Coleambally one service station had fuel sitting at $1.32 and another at $1.38.
Mr Khoury said the price cycle for petrol prices in the MIA region had remained the same for some time and he didn’t expect to see any major drops or increases in the coming weeks.
“Prices should be remaining where they are now … there’s nothing at the moment to indicate they will increase or decrease dramatically,” he said.
“While I can’t predict the prices for Easter, it’s still a good five or six weeks away, hopefully we don’t see the prices spike at that time either.

“There should be no reason for that to happen.” Residents wanting to keep an eye on petrol prices in order to shop around for the best price can do so online or via various apps.
