Yanco-Wamoon will host their first home game of the season on Sunday against the Yenda Blueheelers, a side who defeated their cross-shire rivals in the Greens last weekend.
Last weekend the Hawks neither won nor lost their first game of the 2018 Group 20 season, instead drawing with the Darlington Point-Coleambally Roosters.
Coach Nick Puntoriero believed the side got mostly everything right on the day, except for the discipline, which he now said had hopefully been rectified.
“Our discipline is definitely what let us down last week,” he said.
“I thought we were fit enough and we played some pretty good footy.
“We were giving our silly disciplines and too many were thinking they were the ‘ref’ out there.
“It’s been discussed and hopefully we don’t have that happen again.”
Yanco-Wamoon let go of a significant lead to allow the Roosters back into the match last weekend, which is something Yenda capitalised on in their match against the Greens.
The Greens also held a solid lead at the main break, but allowed Yenda back in.
Puntoriero said it would be crucial for his side to get a jump on the Blueheelers early and then maintain that throughout the match.
“I didn’t think we played too bad last weekend, apart from the discipline side of things,” he said.
“I’m confident in the team we’ve got this year.
“We have some really good players and the boys are all getting around each other.
“They are backing each other in, which is good to see.”
With Yenda having taken out the Group 20 pre-season knockout and coming off round one with a come-from-behind victory, Puntoriero was cautious heading in.
“I think they are a good side and they’ll be up there this year, but I think we’ve certainly got the ability to beat them,” he said. “We want to make sure we win all of our home games this season, so hopefully we can start that with a win on Sunday.”
