District Governor George Weston said it was an excellent opportunity for Leeton Rotary to showcase their work.
“Being from Leeton and being the District Governor, holding the conference in Leeton will be an excellent way to showcase the great work we do in our community as well as overseas,” Mr Weston said.

- District Governor George Weston.
“The District conference will be a wonderful opportunity to experience great ideas, exceptional speakers and learn about amazing people.”
The conference will have an array of interesting speakers at the Roxy Theatre, including Timor-Leste Ambassador to Australia His Excellency Abel Guterres, Sarah Brown – named top nurse in 2017, Walkley-award-winning sports broadcaster Peter Wilkins, Founder of the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners Brendan Farrell, Rotary International President’s Representative Ross Skinner from New Zealand, Past Rotary President and 19-year serving member Cheryl Deguara.
The avenues of Rotary the conference focuses on will be youth – inspiring and helping the youth, foundation – projects completed so far and club – strengthening and inspiring.
The theme for Saturday night’s conference dinner will be ‘water’.
“After travelling to Timor – Leste and other Asian countries and seeing and hearing about the struggle to survive without basic clean water, I felt the need to highlight the importance of clean water,” Mr Weston said.
“Our district is located in a very dry part of Australia, we have a significant dependence on water for irrigation. District 9700 overlaps much of the MIA and water is a primary driver for the commercial survival of our farm families and supporting agricultural industries.”
The conference is open to the public, who are encouraged to come along Saturday night and wear blue, green or something related to the clean water theme.
Members of the 9700 district come together every year to celebrate Rotary, with people coming from Bathurst, Orange, Wagga and all places in between.
