Injuries have struck the Riverina League representative squad ahead of Saturday’s inter-league clash at Robertson Oval.
Riverina’s key position stocks have been hit hardest with Daniel Muir (hamstring), Joe Redfern (ankle), Luke Gestier (hamstring), Brent Arho (wrist) and Ben Walsh (quad) all out due to injury.
Riverina captain Jamie Maddox (glute), Griffith coach Will Griggs (soreness), Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes defender Matt Collins (unavailable), Coolamon skipper Mitch McKelvie (hamstring) and Lucas Conlan (under 17 representative commitments) have also been ruled out.
Orton has also made the decision not to include travellers in the final team.
Young Griffith ruckman Riley Irvin and veteran Mick Duncan have both been added to the squad.
Orton has faith in the final 25-man squad that has been put together.
“It’s unlucky for those (injured) blokes because all the blokes who are injured were really keen to play,” Orton said.
“I’ve spoken to a fair few of them about it and they’re disappointed but that’s footy.
“We’re still in pretty good stead. The blokes we’ve had to bring in, or that might have been on the fringe were still up there. They might have a little bit different talent, or be different players...but hopefully they stand up and we get the win.”
Riverina’s final 25-man squad will train for the last time at Narrandera Sportsground on Wednesday night.
The final team will be named after training.
