The Leeton State Emergency Service (SES) headquarters will be renamed to be known as the Peter “Bud” Morris NSW Leeton Unit Headquarters.
Current Leeton controller Jeremy Bradshaw approached Leeton Shire Council to gain their permission to do so at last week’s meeting.
However, council didn’t need to grant approval after all, but said it was an idea it would “wholeheartedly” support.

A longtime member of the SES, Mr Morris served as Leeton Unit Controller for over 20 years and was still an active member prior to his tragic passing late last year following a motor vehicle accident.
The renaming of the headquarters was a way for the SES to not just remember their friend, but remind all of the many years of hard work and effort Mr Morris gave to the organisation.
“He made such a significant contribution (to the SES),” Mr Bradshaw said.
“He was the local controller from 1989 to 2015 … and played a significant role in developing the Leeton shire flood plan.”
The idea was met with overwhelming support at the council meeting, with mayor Paul Maytom saying it was a great way to honour Mr Morris.
“We support this idea wholeheartedly,” councillor Maytom said.
“It’s a great idea and a wonderful request.
“Bud gave so much to our community for so many years.
“He put his heart and soul into it. This doesn’t need to go through any sort of planning process on our behalf, so you’re free to get the ball rolling.
“It’s a lovely way to remember a man who was known to so many and a dear friend to all.”
The Leeton SES will now start the process of having a plaque made to honour the name change, with an official ceremony to be held at a later date upon its completion.
Mr Morris’ family and friends will be invited to attend and take part in the renaming process.
