Leeton Shire Council is gearing up to start improvement works in the vicinity of Cudgel St outside Yanco Public School.
This project will include the installation of blisters and pedestrian ramps to increase safety for children crossing the road to access the school.
Council has a timeline in place for the work and is hopeful they will be completed by the end of June.
The improvement works are being funded 100 per cent by the Roads and Maritime Services under the Safety around Schools project.
Council’s road safety officer Stephanie Puntoriero was pleased the program had been given the green light.
“This location was identified by the council as an area requiring improvement,” she said.

“The blisters at this location will enable pedestrians and school students to cross more safely and be more visible to vehicles approaching the school crossing.
“The works will also see an increase in parking outside the school and an extension of the bus zone.”
Safety has been a key factor in the Yanco Public area for many years, with mayor Paul Maytom helping to push for flashing lights to be installed warning drivers of the school zone on Main Road 80.
Residents have been asked to to be mindful when in the area as there may be traffic delays during the construction period.
Council has apologised for any delays which may occur throughout the next month in the area.
