Three Leeton firefighters are taking the next step to help fight Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Emma Tyrell, Ben Boots and Kai Atree will join teams of firefighters from around the country to race up 1504 stairs or 98 floors of the Sydney Tower Eye – with 20 kilograms of gear – to raise money for MND research.
Ms Tyrell says she was inspired to join the fight after being inspired the efforts of other firefighters.
“The last few years I’ve seen other firefighters and other stations get involved. I thought it would be something great for our little brigade to do,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to it but I’m actually starting to get a little nervous. I think I underestimated just how many steps 1500 steps are.”

The trio say they have already started training for the October run, including taking on some of Leeton’s deadliest staircases.
Ms Tyrell says they’ll also be doing some fundraising over the next few months.
“There will definitely be chances for the town to get involved and help us out,” she said.
“All of the money goes toward the Macquarie University Research Centre. Every cent could help us out massively.”
