THE 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours list included councillor Jenny Clarke, who was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. This Narrandera Shire stalwart has served five terms as a councillor and was mayor of Narrandera from 2011 to 2016.

Among her special achievements were leading the council away from amalgamation and succeeding, chairing the committee which enabled the Narrandera Arts and Community Centre to get up and running, leading the Shire delegation to Sydney to appeal for funding for assisted living in Narrandera, and encouraging more women to join council.

THE 2018 Goshin Ryn Karate National Championship at Blacktown, NSW in June saw 13 members from the Narrandera Karate Club compete. Differing in ages and competition levels, they acquitted themselves very well, returning home with eleven trophies, several participatory medals and increased confidence to compete in future martial arts events.
