The Leeton school captured both the under 15s and open girls AFL state finals.
St Francis’ under 15 team went through the day undefeated and claimed the state title with a 6.10 (46) to 1.0 (6) win over Bega High School in the final.
The open girls final was an all Riverina battle as St Francis edged out Mater Dei Catholic College in the final, 2.4 (16) to 0.2 (2).
St Francis opens coach Travis Doyle said the school was very proud of both teams.
“We’ve been pretty lucky with our 15s over a number of years, we’ve won the last two, and they have filtered through to our seniors now,” Doyle said.
“We went there with expectations that our under 15s were a really good chance and our seniors, it was a bit of a how it went on the day. So our seniors exceeded expectations and it was good to win the 15s again.”
Doyle said the school was lucky enough to have a number of talented female students.
“We’re pretty lucky in that we have a lot of girts that play a lot of sports and they have good skills and fitness from those other sports,” he said.
“At St Francis, we’re lucky that they will try everything.”
In the opens, Abby Favell led the way for St Francis and was well supported by Tess Staines, Jess Sommerfield and Eilish Morden.
The 15s were coached by James Sullivan and the better players were Giordan Pastro, Mikayla Jones, Abby Thomas, India Lehman and Lizzie Rutledge.
