The Leeton branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) is continuing to grow as an education source for mature age members of the community.
Recently, the group paid a visit to the Yanco campus of Tocal College at the NSW Department of Industries (DPI) site just outside of the town.
As part of the day the group were able to meet police officers who were at the campus taking part in training, as well as watching others undergoing a fencing course.
Prior to the visit, NSW DPI staff Jo Williams and Kellie Goring were on hand at a Leeton U3A meeting and presented an outline of the various training and courses on offer through Tocal College across the state.
Our numbers are steadily growing.

The group later headed out to see for themselves what is happening at the facility. Leeton U3A president Don Graham said the day was eye-opening.
“Everyone knows the research station, as I’ve always called it, is out at Yanco, but it was very interesting to see first-hand what is happening out there,” he said. The Leeton U3A has been running for about 18 months and numbers are steadily climbing.
U3A in Leeton provides options
U3A is a worldwide movement that enables people in their “third age” or retirement years to continue and share the journey of lifelong learning in a friendly, social atmosphere.
Meetings match in with school terms, meaning the group gets together every week on a Tuesday at 10am for a 10.30am start at the Leeton library. Guest speakers are part of the program, as are excursions such as the recent visit to Yanco.

“Our numbers are steadily growing,” Mr Graham said. As part of the Leeton branch there are always weekly exercise sessions on Fridays and discussion groups every fortnight, which are separate to the weekly meetings.
Schedules are available at the library. “We would love to keep building up our numbers, so come find out what we are about,” Mr Graham said.
