Leeton Shire Council will make a decision on Wednesday night as to whether or not it will approve expansion plans for the town’s skate park.
A petition had been circling the town since this year’s Riverina Skate Championships, which were held in April at the meeting.
The document was calling on council to put funds toward a beginners upgrade at the skate park.
Former resident David Cameron was instrumental in the skate park’s original construction and has been a continued supporter of the facility.
He recently travelled from Sydney to attend a community session regarding council’s operational plan and budget for the next year.
“I was one of seven members of the community who forwarded submissions into council regarding the 2019 draft operational plan and budget,” Mr Cameron said.

“My submission was in support of the proposed beginners upgrade of the Leeton regional skate park. I stated the importance in keeping a facility like this fully functioning and up-to-date and I feel like the Leeton council were there to listen.
“Fingers crossed the skate park gets critical scoping funding for 2019.”
The skate park has long been a meeting place for residents of many ages, but it has not been upgraded, according to Mr Cameron.
“The skate park has seen beautification to surrounding environment, but it has stayed unchanged for the last 17 years,” he said.
“It is vitally important to keep facility’s like this up to date.
“Incredibly 18 years ago within the initial planing forwarded to council the Leeton skate park had had three sections proposed within it – a beginner, intermediate and even an Advanced level section – which has never seen the light of day, until now.
“I do hope the proposed upgrade is passed.”
