This program has seen curators hired to present a series of exhibitions over two years and has been made possible by funding from the federal government through the Regional Arts Fund

Kiddle, a carver and jeweler based at Bidgee Studio, Griffith, has developed the concept for Fragments which includes his own work and the work of several other artists and practitioners from around the region.

Each artist has been given a piece of Red Gum and Kiddle is loosely mentoring each of them to respond to the material in their own way, applying their own practices, methods, and individuality to produce something original for this exhibition.

I want the development of each artwork to be spontaneous.

I want the artist to react to the Red Gum in their own way, and while I am providing support I am leaving the process up to the artist to ensure they apply their individuality onto the project.

The artists and practitioners involved range from early-career to established and are from a range of backgrounds, including: contemporary artist and musician Jason Richardson, jeweller Kristy-Lee Agresta, painters Ann Rayment and Janine Murphy, and steelworker Mark Carter to name a few.

Each of the artists and practitioners are from very different backgrounds, this exhibition will bring together their diversity of practices through the commonality of the Red Gum.

Fragments will open on July 16 with an official opening to be held on July 19 from 6.30pm.

Hape Kiddle will be holding an artist talk to close the exhibition on July 29 from 2pm.

Open daily 10am to 4pm at the Narrandera Arts and Community Centre in Cadell Street Narrandera.

Entry is free, donations are welcome. 

ON Friday June 29 I bought The Irrigator and after perusing the sporting section several times, I was unable to find a preview of the upcoming match between the Leeton-Whitton Crows and Collingullie-Glenfield Park. 

Apparently, despite having a large following and winning the competition last year, the Crows were not deemed deserving of mention by The Irrigator sporting staff.

Pathetic. Especially considering the Yenda golf, crossword, comics and the weekly stars rated a mention. And mentioning the Crows netball results from the last week, plus a 2006 review of a Crows v Turvey Park game in the “on this day” section are not an excuse for not previewing the game against Collingullie.
