The Leeton Greens Rugby League Football Club has been successful in obtaining a $125,000 grant from the state government to construct a new canteen and ticketing box for No. 1 Oval.
The news was a welcome relief for club, who has spent many hours putting together funding applications with the assistance of Leeton Shire Council. “We would not have been able to do this work without the grant from the state government,” club president Bill Arnold said.
“It will probably be the end of the football season before we start work … probably when footy is over for all of the codes.”
The idea will be to continue enhance the ovals complex in the hopes of attracting pre-season NRL games, as well as bigger sporting carnivals across all codes throughout the season.
The “old” canteen will still be maintained and used, making it handy when all three ovals are running on the same day.
The new canteen will be located near the main entrance to No. 1 Oval, at the end of the two grandstands.

Having the new “ticketing box” will allow those on the gate collecting entry fees to be covered and protected from the weather.
“The facilities will be for all clubs to use,” Mr Arnold said.
“For two or three years we’ve been trying to get this to happen.”
The grant is funded by a contribution from the state’s registered clubs to reinvest profits from gaming machines back into community projects.
“I congratulate the Leeton Greenies, which successfully applied for this funding,” Member for Murray Austin Evans said.
