IDEAS are coming thick and fast for a revamped Leeton festival.
Dates have been locked in for July next year for the Leeton Art Deco Festival and the creative juices have been flowing to bring it back with a bang.
A community meeting has been held to see who would be interested in help plan the event, with many ideas also brought to the table.
They included Gatsby galas, a speakeasy and prohibition event, murder mysteries, family-friendly day, film festivals and more.
Leeton Shire Council’s marketing and cultural services co-ordinator Suesann Vos said it was full steam ahead from here.
“The next step is to formally appoint the volunteer committee,” she said.
“Then start writing funding applications, scout for performers, frame out the program, prepare marketing plans and a sponsorship prospectus and build website.
“We need to liaise with building owners in the main street to encourage participation in the heritage grant scheme later on in the year to assist with funding to paint facades.”
Since the announcement of the new dates (July 12 to 14), the planning has ramped up.
Mrs Vos said the feedback from the community had been exciting.
“The community wants this event and we are excited to help them build it into a significant regional event that draws visitors out of region for overnight stays to showcase the multiple experiences we have on offer,” she said.
In the later half of this year there will be several cleaning bees held on weekends to work on cleaning up the vacant shopfronts in the main street to remove dirt, dust, grime and cobwebs.
Organisers are also for people to help in the following areas:
- Costume and prop makers
- Performance co-ordinators
- People to help co-ordinate stallholders and those who want experience in writing for the web, marketing admin. This would suit high school and university students, retirees and people with passion and energy.
