The Greens were able to successfully dispose of the Darlington Point-Coleambally Roosters, 34-0, while Yanco-Wamoon notched up another victory over West Wyalong, 34-4.
For fifth-placed Leeton, the victory over the Roosters was also expected given they hadn’t yet won a match this season.
However, as with each of their games, Leeton went into the match prepared and were aware they couldn’t take their opposition lightly.
Coach Katie McGregor described the match as a team effort.
“Everyone really played so well … we were able to give everyone a run too which was good,” she said.
“To get a solid win was what we wanted.
“We were also able to try out some of the plays we’ve been working on at training.
“It was good to bring those into a real game.”
Players’ player for the Greens was Kelly Pauls.
Their attention has now turned to this weekend when they meet West Wyalong at No. 1 Oval.
It will be a case of fifth up against sixth, but McGregor was confident her team would come away with the points.
“We want to get another good win this weekend because after that we’ve got some tough games coming up against Hay, Yanco and Yenda towards the end of the season,” she said.
“Hopefully we can stay in the top five.”
Yanco-Wamoon will make the trek to Hay on Sunday after their solid win over West Wyalong.
The Hawks were well led by Tess Staines, Bree Coelli and Abby McCloskey.
“Our field positioning was great … there’s a new rule this year which I wasn’t actually aware of where you’re allowed two markers,” coach Craig Higgins said.
“So we tried that out and it worked really well.
“I thought all of the girls played well. They’ve got a bit of confidence about them.
“Their commitment is there.”
There opponents in Hay this weekend are one spot above them in third on the ladder and Higgins said it would be an interesting clash. “I think (Rachel) Pearson is still out injured, but they are still a very strong team,” he said.
