Leeton’s JumpStart group was set up in 2003 with the primary aim of helping residents in need.
It has two branches to the organisation – a public fundraising committee, which meets every couple of months and an assessment committee, which discusses people’s needs confidentially and determines those it can assist.
In recent times members of the community have been wondering what the group has been up to, but rest assured JumpStart is still operational by a small group of residents.
With the 15th anniversary now here, there’s no better time to become a member of JumpStart and lend a hand.

JumpStart president Megan Martin said the primary focus of the organisation remains the same today.
“Unfortunately, we cannot help everyone, but the assessors do their best to guide clients to other organisations for help if they do not meet our criteria for help,” she said.
“As a charity organisation an annual general meeting is held each year in July and an audited financial report is submitted to Fair Trading NSW.
“All money raised by the small, but dedicated fundraising committee and the selling of ‘the house that JumpStart built’, are in investments, earning interest for future assistance.”
JumpStart typically receives several requests for help each month, with some ranging for small amounts of money up to larger dollar amounts.
“Jumpstart’s work is based on confidentiality,” Mrs Martin said.
“It will not identify those in need or announce the financial help provided to them.
“It is part of our constitution that all the monies raised must stay within Leeton shire.”
Over the years JumpStart has held many memorable fundraisers, including pizza and plonk nights, a minute to win it and of course – it built a house purely based on volunteer efforts from the local community.
Anyone needing help or support from JumpStart can call the hotline number 6953 6025 or read one of the pamphlets which are available around town at places such as doctors surgeries and the Leeton District Hospital.
