Police were called to the Leeton Showgrounds on Sunday after reports of an injured animal.
A man had been at the showgrounds to feed the two-year-old filly and noticed he was behaving unusual and his tail was up in the air.
The animal had to be placed in the care of a veterinarian and it is suspected the horse was subjected to mistreatment with the use of an object. The man who was feeding the filly found a pair of black sunglasses with a red trim nearby, as well as a brown pocket knife.
